Book Release Party – "Death in the Cards" by Mia P. Manansala

Restoried Bookshop is hosting a book release party for Mia P. Manansala’s YA debut, “Death in the Cards” on Saturday, May 17th at 3:00 PM! This is a free event and you can RSVP here.

Mia will be joined in conversation by Gloria Chao with celebratory cake courtesy of Camelia Bakes. Additionally, Camelia Bakes and Salamat Designs will have a popup in-store selling desserts and handmade jewelry. Copies of “Death in the Cards” will also be available for purchase at the event.

Mia P. Manansala (she/her) is a writer  from Chicago who loves books, baking, and bad-ass women. She is the author of the multi-award-winning Tita Rosie’s Kitchen Mystery series and the forthcoming YA novel DEATH IN THE CARDS (May 13, 2025). She uses humor (and murder) to explore aspects of the Filipino diaspora, queerness, and her millennial love for pop culture.

Des Plaines Harvest Hoot

Join us at Oakton College for Des Plaines’ first-ever Harvest Hoot! There will be live entertainment on stage, an inflatable corn maze, a live pumpkin carving demonstration, family activities, a harvest artisan market, food trucks, and more! Everyone in the community is invited to attend.

This event is outdoors and weather dependent. Updates will be communicated through our Facebook page at facebook.com/cityofdesplaines.

No alcohol is permitted on Oakton property. Bringing pets to this event is discouraged.

Entry to the event and family activities are free. Food trucks and market vendors will have products available for purchase. We encourage attendees to bring lawn chairs to enjoy the live music on stage.

The Great Roo Bake Off

I am super excited to share that I will be competing in the cake category of Live Like Roo Foundation’s Bake Off next month!

Live Like Roo is a nonprofit that provides support and financial assistance to families whose pet faces a cancer diagnosis.

The Great Roo Bake Off will crown a winner for best pie, cookie, cake and dog treat in each category AND an ultimate winner that will be judged by some of the best in the restaurant business. Tasters attending the event will be able to vote on their favorites and will be counted in with the judges’ votes. Enjoy an open bar, coffee bar, and live music!
